To beat this heat, we've been hitting the pool
Sadly, our neighborhood doesn't have a pool. Our previous neighborhood did, but we rarely used it. Now that we have kids, we are definitely missing having that pool option! Anyway, the one above is the community pool for a pretty fancy neighborhood near us, which the Y recently partnered with. Again, I guess I need to retract my statement that the Ys in our area aren't any good. This one was great! We had a blast!
Another reason I've been wanting to hit the pool more is that Elizabeth is really pretty petrified of swimming. She will only stay where she can touch, and won't attempt to swim on her own in deeper parts, unless she's in a giant floatie/boat (which aren't allowed at the Y). When I try to take her to show her that her lifevest/waterwings/etc. will help her float, she goes into total panic mode--clinging to my neck, refusing to let go. For such an adventurous/fearless girl, I have no idea what brought on this fear, but I'm hoping more exposure to the pool will help.
Liam has no fear of the water yet. He loves it! He gets SO excited every time we go these days! It's funny... he has started answering our questions lately. Like if we ask him something, and he wants to do it, he'll say "Ya!" and nod. But if he doesn't, he'll shake his head violently from side to side and screech "ne, ne, ne!" Anyway, while at the pool, anytime we asked if he wanted to swim, it was a resounding "Ya!" Often with a nod and point.
Equally adorable, anytime we got out of the pool, he was very admant with his signs for "more!" Here he is above telling daddy, "more! more! more!" with his signs!
Mommy and daddy took turns "diving" in deeper parts and even going down the water slide a few times! So much fun!
Liam's favorite thing by far is getting thrown up in the air, only to splash down in the water below. We discovered this joy at a friends pool last week. He LOVED getting thrown up, and kept signing "more! more! more!" each time.
This brings me to another fun pool day--last week we enjoyed a fun night with the Perkins and Zsuppan families at their neighborhood pool! It was so funny, because for several hours before it was time to head over, Elizabeth insisted on putting on her bathing suit, goggles, and floaties. She was VERY excited about getting to go swimming with her friends!
Above: Elizabeth, Owen, and Caroline :)
They are really turning into little people. Jenny (Owen's mom) cracked me up saying that in VBS Elizabeth and the girls were like little women--one day Elizabeth came in and turned to her friend Ella Grace, saying, "Ella Grace! I really like your earrings!" So funny! And as you can see, they are also really looking like little kids these days! In fact, the other day, I pulled out my What to Expect... toddler version, and realized that the book stops at 36 months :( I think my heart broke a little bit that day.
Anyway, we had such a fun time at both pools and hope to get lots more pool time before the season is up!
***Note: Just a little update on Bella: we are hoping to get the surgery scheduled for next week. We also found out Vassil needs to have surgery for some nasal/sinus problems he's been having. He will also probably have this done in the coming weeks. Please keep them both in your prayers!
