Day on the Farm

Today, we headed out with some friends to tour a local dairy farm and creamy.
It was a LOT of fun!
The kids got to practice milking a pretend cow...
There were quite a few barn cats running about... this one kind of looked like a cow, and was the sweetest thing... let all the kids pick him up and carry him around like a rag doll.
There was also a big hayride around the property and guided tour. We learned a LOT about raising dairy cows!
 The farmland was SO pretty.
 Liam loved the tractor best.
Every time they'd stop at a different set of cows to tell us more information as part of the tour... Liam would start in, "When is the tractor going to go again? When is the tractor going to go?" He was FAR more fascinated by the tractor than by the cows--lol.
There was lots to see on the tour... over 300 cows at this particular farm, and two bulls.
 Fun in the sun...
 And fun with friends...
Liam got to help feed a baby cow.
Of course, mama wanted "posed" pics too.
After the hayride, they took us into the building where the machines actually do the milking. It was very interesting to learn the process. Apparently on this farm, they milk at 2am and 2pm, and each cow produces around 10 gallons of milk a day. The cows who are on any sort of medications, the milk gets dumped down the drain. And they keep track of everything using microchips via the computer. They are also fed strictly organic, but because of the way the organic "seal" is set up they aren't technically organic, even though they are.
After checking out the inside (sorry no pics, it was dark) we headed over to the picnic tables for lunch... and of course, ICE CREAM!
Ice cream made right on site from the cows on the farm.
 Pretty neat!
What a fun day we had!
 Gosh I love summer!
Beautiful day!
Here's to many more...
